Keynote speeches
A theoretical background for action research in teacher education as well as the state of art of environmental education was discussed by the keynote speeches at the beginning of the conference. Afterwards discussion focused on the case studies presented by the participants. The cross-analysis of case studies was given as a reference before the case study presentation. Reflection on the case studies concluded discussion on these issues. In this reflection the conclusions of the case studies were presented and problematic areas were identified for the future research and co-operation.
Case studies
The twelve case studies from seven countries gave a picture of the teacher education activity of the participants. All the case studies dealt not only with the educational activity of the participants but also with reflection on environmental educational activities. In reflecting on environmental activities most case studies used the methods of action research. All the case studies emphasized the importance of essential permanent development of environmental educational activities at the level of schools as well as in teacher education or in educational policies.
Algyő
At Algyő one of the Hungarian case studies was presented in details. The participants could attend three environmental education lessons at the Algyő Primary School. Each lesson was conducted partly by teacher students, and an action research questionnaire was administered by all the pupils, teachers, and students at the end of the activities. These questionnaires and other types of feedback (discussions, documents) are used for reflection and as a basis for future development both for teacher students and the school.
